The wedding slideshow is back online!!! http://wedding.mikeandploy.com/slideshow
Other than that….more stuff is coming.

A few short updates today. First – the wedding page went back up. It’s visible here as a reminder of where this started such a short time ago. Unfortunately, I don’t have the wiki or the admin side of our sites, but that’s ok. Not everything has to be archived. It’s probably better that way.
Working on the gallery too. Kimber and Anthony’s wedding is up. Still figuring out the differences or tweaks of the system. It seems like whenever I upload a picture, the converter takes up 100% of the CPU and slows everything down. I’ll have to look into this a little more – maybe JW’s limited me?
Then there’s the issue with the DNS. Hrm.. every so often, from home or from work, one of the subdomains will go down. It’s still active on the server, but for some reason, I won’t be able to get to the address, or ping it. It won’t even resolve. I tried changing the timings – we’ll see what happens.
Moving Along

First gallery went up tonight - Engagement Pictures
Woohoo! I think I’m taxing the server though – it really lags when I’m uploading files. I’ll have to look if there’s a way to optimize that, or maybe JW has me capped. Hrmm….
Anyway, cuz I’m bored, I’m testing a video too. I’ll have to see if this will work. It’s also a preview of the honeymoon album to come….. stay tuned.
More to do….

So I finally figured it out… how apache is configured with both serveralias and severname. Duh – can’t set them both to the same thing. Severname is the actual name of the server, while ALIASES are additional names that you want the server to respond to. I was confused cuz I thought they were interchangeable and was putting the same thing in both. Note: Apache doesn’t work if you have the same thing in both fields.
Now that is all sorted out gallery.mikeandploy.com and wiki.mikeandploy.com are all setup. It’s just the content that needs work now….. uhahahahwahaaaaahahwhaaaaa. That’s a lot of typing to do…..
Part Deux
by mike on Jun.28, 2010, under New Management
With this second post, I’ve tied my streak for the most posts in a blog…EVAR!!!! (Bwah hah hah hah hah!!! – you can thank evil genius for that)
Hrm, oh well. A few more modifications today. I figured out how to enable the permalinks, which gives pretty URLs to connect to instead of something like “p=8?”. I also changed the web address and added the www in front. There’s no difference, but I think I’m just conditioned to it. It looks better. Also configured the different widgets around the page…. not sure what I like on those either. We’ll see how it goes.
Next up…mmmm. not sure. Maybe work on the copyright for the About Pages? Also, I’m not sure what to do with categories and tags. They seem very similar, with the category adding a new section on the main page. I’ll just mark this one “new management” as I’m not sure what to do with it yet – and “uncategorized” seems a bit uncivilized.
by mike on Jun.27, 2010, under New Management
Hello World!
So, this is the third #1 post. That may not make a whole lot of sense – how can you have the 3rd time of the 1st of something? Well, it’s pretty easy if you keep starting over.
Now starting over isn’t all bad, if done for the right reason. I don’t really have a good reason – other than just wanted to start over. It’s like tearing apart something you just built with legos, just so you can build it again. You do lose all the work that was done previously though – and that’s the case here (sorry hon). The first two blogs were done with a webhost, but this one is standing on it’s own. Thanks to JW, it’s on it’s own virtual server, on a 100mbit backbone. Plenty of power to run this site and no more waiting in sever queue lines. So far it’s free, but we’ll see.
Couple of other reasons to manage my own webserver too. Flexibility in apps, experience in management, and just a hobby to do – to go along with all the other things I’m doing. I always wonder if I’m taking too many thing on at once. But maybe I do that just don’t I don’t get bored of any one thing.
Anyway, I better keep this short. A couple of other things to take care of – trying to customize the layout and look of the site as well. We’ll see how far that gets. More plans to come! Hopefully videos too. Woohoo!
